The Belmont Solar Car Team started in the winter of 2011. The team started with four students meeting in a Belmont High classroom. The team has sinced blossomed into a collection of young, eager minds that have dedicated their time, efforts and energies to create something bigger than themselves. Sacrificing afternoons, weekends and vacation time, 13 high school students have pushed beyond the rigors of academia to work as a team and create a solar powered vehicle worthy of a spot at the starting line of the Solar Challenge in Texas. As the only high school solar car team in Massachusetts, we are preparing to put our science and engineering to the test.
This student-based project has already provided our team members with applicable time-management skills as well as team-building and leadership opportunities. We cannot stress the level of pride that stems from knowing that we are trailblazing a path for future young minds to push one another beyond the classroom and into the real world with environmentally responsible projects.
